What can and must be done to bring quantum technology and especially quantum computing to industrial application in Germany? At our panel at World of QUANTUM on June 28th at Messe München, we discussed this question with experts from different areas of the German quantum ecosystem—because we believe in open exchange and collaborative efforts.
We thank all participants – both in the panel and the audience – for their contribution to an enriching conversation.
Connecting representatives of German politics, public institutions, the scientific community, start-ups and the providing as well as the applying industry, we tried to draw a comprehensive and differentiated picture of the current situation in Germany with regards to quantum computing application. Most importantly, we mapped out which concrete path we can jointly take to lead Germany to digital sovereignty in quantum computing and promote Europe as a business location.
During our conversation, the discussion moved across the following questions: Where has success been achieved so far? Which future potentials can we tackle today? What are the biggest challenges on the way to application? What are the specific needs for action? Where is support needed the most, be it from industry or from politics?

“Talent and continuity are of paramount importance for the marathon to useful quantum applications. This excellently moderated panel showed that we as the German quantum computing community are ready – and what it takes to get there.”
Dr. Robert Axmann, Deutsches Zentrum für Luft- und Raumfahrt (DLR)
“We have seen novel ways for academic and industrial research and development collaborations at this panel – and that can be a huge step forward.”
Prof. Dr. Frank Wilhelm-Mauch, Forschungszentrum Jülich
“The quantum landscape in Bavaria is in a pole position to scale and commercialize. I am fully confident Bavaria, Germany and Europe will solve the remaining challenges by training the much needed quantum experts and by building innovation highways between academia and corporates for the quantum industry of the future. The panel discussion provided valuable insights on how we can jointly move forward.”
Dr. Sabine Donauer, Bayerisches Staatsministerium für Digitales
